Re-energising a community
GTC was excited to be responsible for bringing energy back to the Former Corus Works and new life into the region, a challenge Persimmon Homes knew was well within GTC experienced capabilities.
This project breathed life back into the former steel works community at Stockton with a visionary re-development of the high-profile Corus Steel Works which closed in 2007. The transformation of this brownfield development is creating a lively new community with 375 new private and social homes for Darlington and Stockton on Tees. Within the site boundary there is also a large commercial area which will bring welcomed new employment opportunities to the region.
The new community required 1,800m of onsite gas mains and 2,650m of electricity mains together with two substations and more than 1,000m of offsite cabling. In addition, GTC was involved in the commercial arrangements for a number of business developments within the project.
GTC delivered the promised energisation date and by working with Persimmon Homes ensured the first new homes were ready for the owners to occupy in time for Christmas. GTC’s industry leading technical expertise resolved the challenge on this project of designing a utilities network with the full capacity for the new homes but with network flexibility to support the commercial development where the businesses utilities requirements are speculative only.
“GTC has demonstrated a flexible approach to help meet our needs both commercially and in the design of the network. As a result of this approach and confidence gained due to nationwide coverage of GTC delivery we have recently awarded them three projects in the area, these are the Former Corus Works, Watson Court and Spout Lane developments.”
