Regulatory
GTC operates in highly regulated industries. We ensure that we meet all our obligations in terms of service quality and safety, customer information and regulatory reporting.
District heat
Regulations governing district heat networks are currently under consultation. In the meantime, each of our district energy networks is registered with the Heat Trust, an industry-led initiative setting high-quality standards in customer service.
Electricity
The regulator for the electricity market is the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem). An Ofgem licence is granted to operate as an independent distribution network operator (IDNO) for electricity.
GTC operates and maintains assets for two IDNO licences: The Electricity Network Company Limited and Independent Power Networks limited.
Fibre broadband
The regulator for fibre broadband networks is the Office of Communications (Ofcom). Open Fibre Networks Limited (OFNL) owns and operates all of GTC’s fibre broadband networks.
Water and wastewater
The regulator for water and wastewater markets is the Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat). Under licence, Independent Water Networks Limited (IWNL) replaces the current incumbent as the water and/or sewerage service provider within a specific area, for the developments we serve. This is known as a New Appointment and Variation (NAV) and allows us to provide water and/or sewerage services.
Gas
The regulator for the gas market is the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem). An Ofgem licence is granted to operate as an independent gas transporter (IGT) for gas.
GTC operates and maintains assets for three IGT licences; GTC Pipelines Limited; Independent Pipelines Limited; and Quadrant Pipelines Limited.
Please find below a copy of all our regulatory documents. If you cannot find the document you are looking for or have a query relating to a electricity or gas regulatory matter, please contact GTC Regulatory affairs team.
